A game with significant playoff implications takes place when the New York Jets host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football at MetLife Stadium The Jaguars (6-8) sit in second place in the AFC South, one game behind division-leading Tennessee. However, Jacksonville controls its own destiny to win the division by virtue of beating the Titans in Week 14 and still having a game against Tennessee to play in the regular season finale. Meanwhile, the Jets (7-7) are one game behind Miami (8-6) for the third and final wild card spot in the conference.

Kickoff is at 8:15 p.m. ET. Caesars Sportsbook lists New York as a 2.5-point favorite in the latest Jaguars vs. Jets odds, while the over/under is 36.5. Before making any Jets vs. Jaguars picks or NFL predictions, you’ll want to see what SportsLine’s resident Jaguars expert, Mike Tierney, has to say.

A veteran sportswriter whose work appears periodically in The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, Mike Tierney has covered the NFL for decades and reported from seven Super Bowls. He entered the 2022 NFL season 232-204-10 ATS since the start of the 2018 season. He also is 31-14 on his last 45 NFL picks in games involving the Jaguars, returning $1,593. Anyone who has followed him is way up.

Now, Tierney has zeroed in on Jaguars vs. Jets and just locked in his picks and TNF predictions. You can head to SportsLine to see his picks. Now, here are several NFL odds and betting lines for Jets vs. Jags:

    • Jaguars vs. Jets spread: Jets -2.5
    • Jaguars vs. Jets over/under: 36.5 points
    • Jaguars vs. Jets money line: Jets -135, Jaguars +115
    • NYJ: Jets rank third in the NFL in total defense (305.4 yards allowed per game).
    • JAX: Foyesade Oluokun leads the league in tackles (156).
    • Jaguars vs. Jets picks: See picks at SportsLine

    Why the Jets can cover

New York has been strong on the defensive side of the ball all season. Robert Saleh’s team give up just 305.4 total yards per game, which is third in the league behind only San Francisco and Philadelphia. They also give up just 18.8 points per game, which ranks fourth.

In addition, rookie receiver Garrett Wilson is on a roll. The No. 10 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft, Wilson is averaging 108.3 receiving yards per game over the last four games. He has 966 receiving yards this season, which is a franchise rookie record, and is on track to become the team’s first 1,000-yard receiver since Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker did it in 2015. See which team to pick here.

    Why the Jaguars can cover

Safety Rayshawn Jenkins is having a career season. The former Chargers safety has set career-highs in tackles (95), solo tackles (60) and forced fumbles (two) and has tied his career-high in interceptions (three). Last Sunday against Dallas, he had two picks, including one that he returned 59 yards in overtime to win the game.

In addition, receiver Christian Kirk is on pace to have his best year. Signed in the offseason to a four-year, $72 million contract, Kirk has 73 receptions for 966 yards. His career-highs are 77 and 982, set last season. He already has a career-high seven receiving touchdowns. See which team to pick here.

How to make Jaguars vs. Jets picks

We can tell you Tierney is leaning Over on the point total, but he also has isolated a critical X-factor that has him going big on one side of the spread. He’s only sharing what it is, and which side to back, at SportsLine.

Who wins Jets vs. Jaguars on Thursday Night Football? And which critical X-factor makes one side of the spread hit hard? Visit SportsLine now to see which side of the Jets vs. Jaguars spread to back, all from the expert who is 31-14 on against-the-spread picks involving Jacksonville, and find out.
