Tom Rogic’s football career will restart at West Bromwich Albion after the Championship club confirmed the signing of the talented Aussie.

The 29-year-old, who was part of six Scottish Premiership titles at Celtic, will play under Steve Bruce at The Hawthorns on a one-year deal.

Rogic’s future has been clouded ever since he withdrew from the Socceroos’ World Cup playoffs in June. He has barely been sighted since playing under Ange Postecoglou last season.

It remains to be seen whether Rogic will be a contender for the Australian Qatar World Cup squad but regular game time in the English second division could allow him to build the required fitness.

“I heard about the club’s interest in me about a week ago, I spoke with the manager, who seems like a really good guy, and I spoke with my agent and here we are,” Rogic said.

“I was looking for a change of scenery and a fresh challenge. I didn’t just want to rush into anything. I think it was important for me to take my time and make sure my next club was the right club. I had some time to reflect and I now feel refreshed and re-energised and excited about the future. I’m really looking forward to getting started at Albion.

“I think it’s fair to say the team hasn’t got the results the performances have warranted so far this season. I know that the manager and the boys are looking to change that as quickly as possible.”

West Brom currently sits 16th in the Championship with just one win from its first eight matches, eight points back of leaders Sheffield United.

They were relegated from the Premier League after the 2020-21 season and have yo-yoed between the top and second division in recent years.
