The Ukrainian army has successfully liberated eight settlements in the southern Kherson region from the Russian troops, according to a report.
The newly-liberated villages in Kherson Oblast include Biliaivka, Davydiv Brid, Khreshchenivka, Liubymivka, Mala Oleksandrivka, Ukrainka, Velyka Oleksandrivka and Zolota Balka, Ukraine’s Operational Command Pivden wrote in the report Tuesday.
“After a thoroughly planned and brilliantly implemented military operation on liberating the territories of Kherson Oblast from the occupation, our units liberated, reclaimed and restored the Ukrainian state flag in eight settlements of Beryslav district,” the report stated. “Glory to the liberating soldiers. Let’s win together!”
Ukraine’s Deputy Interior Minister Yevhen Enin on Tuesday said that the country’s military also recaptured 50 additional towns and villages in Kherson and freed some 3,500 citizens from the Russian occupation. However, he did not specify the names of the liberated areas or over what period they were recaptured.
Russia has yet to acknowledge its losses in the Kherson region, but maps published by the Russian Defense Ministry showed that it no longer has control of the village of Dudchany on the west bank of the Dnipro river as well as areas on the west bank of the Oskil River.
In addition to the newly-liberated settlements in the Kherson region, the Ukrainian army Tuesday recaptured two villages in Kharkiv, namely Bohuslavka and Borivska Andriivka, according to the Facebook page of the Borivska Village Council. On Monday, Ukraine also liberated the village of Borova in Kharkiv Oblast.
Last week, Ukraine liberated six settlements – Yampil, Novoselivka, Shandryholove, Drobyshevo, Stavsky and the key city of Lyman – in Donestk after the Russian military withdrew its troops from the territory, which President Vladimir Putin “formally” annexed last week.
Ukraine’s latest successes come as the war has entered its eighth month. It is unclear how many military deaths Ukraine and Russia have experienced since February as both countries have yet to release an official count.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on Tuesday said that approximately 60,800 Russian soldiers have been killed in the war. In comparison, Ukraine’s Commander-in-chief, Valeriy Zaluzhniy, said in August that nearly 9,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed in combat.
