The 28-year-old India National Cricket Team pacer Mohammed Siraj produced a terrific direct-hit to run out Sri Lanka National Cricket Team all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne in the dead rubber third ODI on Sunday, January 15.
The third ODI of the three-match series between the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and the Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team was played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Mohammed Siraj bowled extremely well with the new ball while defending a mammoth target. He dismissed Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Nuwanidu Fernando and Wanindu Hasaranga inside the first 10 overs. Then, on the 4th ball of the 12th over he ran Karunaratne out with a brilliant direct-hit.
Siraj bowled a straight full-length delivery to Karunaratne and the Sri Lanka all-rounder defended it quite well and held on to his pose. Siraj quickly picked up the ball and threw it back at the stumps and Karunaratne was caught off guard. As the decision went upstairs, it was seen that the Sri Lanka all-rounder’s legs were out of the crease at the exact moment when the ball hit the stumps.

I wanted to try and get my first fifer, tried very hard – Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj bowled exceptionally well in the match and finished his 10-over spell with the figures of 4/32, unfortunately missing out on his five-wicket haul.
Speaking after India’s monstrous 317-run win over the visitors, Siraj said that he tried very hard to bag a five-wicket haul and captain Rohit Sharma gave him enough opportunities, but he wasn’t able to get the last wicket. He said:
“I wanted to try and get my first fifer. Tried very hard, but you get only as much as you deserve. The outswing was coming out nicely, but the wicket-taking over was the scrambled seam. I just try to generate some doubt in the batter’s mind with those outswing deliveries. Captain tried hard to get me that fifer, but what can we do.”
