The backstage plans for Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar’s ongoing rivalry have reportedly been revealed.
Reigns and Lesnar, two of the most powerful figures at present in the WWE Company, are once again scheduled to come face to face at the upcoming event of SummerSlam.
Lesnar, who lost his WWE Championship to Reigns at WrestleMania 38, had been out of action for a while since his defeat in April. However, he made a surprise return last month on SmackDown. Following this, the WWE Company announced he would challenge Reigns at SummerSlam.
Originally, Reigns was set to take on Randy Orton at the SummerSlam on July 30 at Nissan Stadium, Tennessee. However, Orton picked up an injury that saw him undergo surgery and he is believed to be out for the year.
Reputed wrestling commentator Michael Cole revealed the SummerSlam event would see the end of Reigns and Lesnar’s rivalry, according to Sportskeeda.
Meanwhile, former WWE champion Kurt Angle has questioned WWE’s decision to once again pit Reigns against Lesnar.
“I think that has a lot to do with the other promotion starting to get some momentum behind them — AEW. You know, WWE lost a lot of talent to them. They’re looking at their NXT guys and they’re going to start making those guys pretty soon. I think that they do have a habit of going back to the older guys like Brock Lesnar,” Angle told NBC Sports, according to Wrestling Inc.
Angle, who won the WWE Championship four times during his golden years with the WWE, went on to add that Reigns must wrestle some new talent, including the NXT fighters as they are very talented and can match the Head of the Table’s skills.
“I have nothing against Brock Lesnar coming back and wrestling Roman Reigns again but it’s already been done, and you don’t want to keep doing that over and over again. You have to make new talent,” Angle added in the same interview.
Angle had a historic fight against Lesnar at WrestleMania 19. The former is also no stranger to helping build new stars as he was the first to face off against John Cena in his WWE debut.
It has also been reported that Lesnar’s return has increased the sales for the July 11 episode of WWE RAW in Texas, which would feature the Beast Incarnate.
